An increase in public health spending in the South West Beds constituency will be used to tackle obesity, smoking, and drug and alcohol abuse.

The Government confirmed last week that ring-fenced public spending will rise from £9.6m to £10.1m over the next two years.

South West Beds MP Andrew Selous said: “I am delighted that Central Beds Council will have control of this money to improve health outcomes locally.

“I strongly support NHS spending to prevent people from getting ill in the first place and I am pleased that this money will be used to help people avoid the need for NHS treatment in the future.”
