How should we use £10,000?

editorial image

As Dunstable received the news it is to receive £10,000 as part of a “massive package of support” to improve the town centre, many of you took to social media to tell us how you think it should be spent.

Nigel Brereton said the pavements in Friars Walk and First Avenue near Lark Rise are a “disgrace”, but that £10k is “not a lot” of money to go towards a solution.

Dan Wilson said: “I’d put the double roundabouts back in to ease the traffic... though they said that about the lights before forcing them in.”

Some see the town as a lost cause – Will Unwin said the money should be spent on “dynamite”, while Pete Smith suggested a “second hand bulldozer”.

Suggestions were not all doom-and-gloom, however, as Josh Jones suggested the council build “a splash park for younger kids”, and Ben Burnell said to “give the Quadrant a lick of paint”.

Keith Mason warned Dunstable not to ask Luton Borough Council for spending advice, pointing to the £50,000 a year they spend on maintaining flowers in St George’s Square – as reported by our sister paper Luton News last year.
