Lamppost left road closed in Houghton

A road in Houghton Regis was closed for over an hour on Monday (August 27) after a lamppost was knocked over by a car.

At about 11.15am police were called to Windsor Drive where a green Volkswagon Golf has collided with the lampost and caused it to block the road.

Police set up a roadblock at 11.45 which remained there until 12.55pm.

The fire service was also called to the scene over concerns the vehicle was smoking.

No one was seriously injured and the driver provided a negative breath test.
