Library lovers drew on art skills
Houghton Regis Library
A relaunch day for Houghton Regis Library really turned out to be a big draw.
For the event featured a Create a Book Backdrop session with artist Wendy Briggs.
The Bedford Square library has undergone an upgrade.
Improvements include new self-service technology.
Self-service desks allow library lovers to scan in books and other items they want to borrow, return or renew.
And the team say that means library staff can spend more time helping visitors.
The library now also has refreshment facilities and a “read and relax” area.
At the relaunch, self-service equipment was demonstrated and visitors could join library staff to celebrate with light refreshments.
The revamp was the first in a series of library upgrades by Central Beds Council.
Those updates are all part of the council’s 15-year scheme to modernise libraries.
Feedback from library users through the “libraries for the future” consultation led to the latest improvements.
Other Central Beds libraries will undergo revamps between September 2012 and February 2013.
Information will be available from libraries and at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/librariesforthefuture.
