‘MP’s jungle jolly is really bugging me’

LET DOWN: Jonathan Paxton wants a by-election for the Mid Beds seat

Controversial MP Nadine Dorries has been proving a popular choice with I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here viewers – but not everyone wants her to stay in the jungle.

Ms Dorries has twice been voted by the public to take part in trials, which on Monday night saw her buried alive in a casket that was then filled with a variety of creepy crawlies.

The MP, who was suspended by her party after jetting off to Australia to take part in the ITV reality show, lasted four minutes before shouting the words, “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here,” to trigger her escape
To win the ‘Bug Burial’ trial she needed to stay in the box for 10 minutes before letting herself out with an Allen key, but her failure saw her return to camp empty-handed.

She later received the news that the public had voted for her to take part in the next task, a bushtucker trial called ‘Rotten Rhymes’.

But one of Ms Dorries’ constituents will not be picking up the phone to nominate her for the gruesome contests.

Jonathan Paxton, of Brazier Close, Barton, has set up an online petition campaigning for the MP to be recalled from the jungle.

Mr Paxton, 36, said: “I think she’s letting down her constituents and she has broken her election promises to represent us.

“She has walked out of her job for four weeks, if any other public servant did that their job would be at risk.

“Nadine seems to think this is part of her remit, which it isn’t.”

Mr Paxton said all three of the main political parties had promised legislation that would allow the public to recall an MP and trigger a by-election, but that this was yet to happen.

“We want to use this a case to show why people should have the right to recall their MP.

“Most people aren’t pleased about what she’s doing – she’s promoting herself rather than her constituents. My opinion is that she’s setting herself up for her next career move.”
