No hillside blues for classics crew
The weekend’s weather was as up and down as the Kop Hill Climb itself as vintage car and bike enthusiasts enjoyed mixed fortunes at Princes Risborough.
Saturday saw blues skies, glorious sunshine and 10,000 visitors, plus a Spitfire flypast – ‘the perfect day’, according to organisers.
But torrential rain which descended from mid morning the following day saw less than a third of that number attend Buckinghamshire’s historic rally, with only around 4,000 enthusiasts venturing out. Nevertheless, the two-day event still matched last year’s total of £41,000, all of which will go to local charities.
For the first time, the event also featured a Chevrolet-sponsored soapbox challenge featuring home-made vehicles for the 10-17 age group, with an artificial slope providing the platform for a 16-team competition as to who could travel furthest.
The Modena trophy was claimed by The Snails from 1st Stewkley Scouts, with Wendover Whizzkids taking the ‘spirit of the event’ award.
