People in need bank on cash crisis food aid

editorial image

Dunstable Foodbank has provided 2,000 meals for families since its launch in September.

The service provides free vital supplies to stop people going hungry in a sudden short-term cash crisis.

And the foodbank team has also donated produce to the Salvation Army to help with its Christmas hampers distributions.

People can obtain special Foodbank vouchers from sources such as GPs, JobCentre Plus and social services.

Then they can visit a distribution point, to pick up enough food to cover three days in each of three weeks.

Many of the agencies which issue the vouchers needed to receive food from the Foodbank will be closed during the Christmas period.

So the distribution centres will provide double amounts of food in the days before the holiday.

Revised arrangements at distribution centres for the Christmas break are as follows.

> Monday, December 24, New Life Church, Houghton Road, open 2pm-4pm.

> Tuesday-Thursday, December 25-27, all closed.

> Friday, December 28, The Way, West Street, open 2.30pm-4.30pm

> Monday, December 31, New Life Church, Houghton Road, open 2pm-4pm

> Tuesday, January 1, all closed

> Wednesday, January 2, New Life Church, Houghton Road, open 2pm-4pm; Wilkinson Hall, Toddington, open 9am-11am.

All centres open at regular times from then on.
