Sarah drums up sports support!

An inspiration – that’s 18-year-old Dunstablian Sarah Fisher, who is off to university after a once-in-a-lifetime summer.
Sarah, of Beale Street, was born with cerebral palsy but has never allowed mobility problems and a speech impediment to stop her achieving her ambitions.
She is already a role model for youngsters, as a Cub Scout Leader with the 7th Dunstable Scout Group.
But this summer, she helped inspire a nation, too, as a talented drummer.
For she stepped into the spotlight when she performed at the Olympic and Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies.
Sarah also banged the drum for sporting success in Trafalgar Square in the Team GB Celebration Parade.
She said: “In my wildest dreams I could not imagine this. It took my breath away.”
The former Manshead School pupil earned a hug from sports stars including runners Usain Bolt and Mo Farah, and rower Helen Glover.
Now she is off to study community music at the University of Sunderland. And she wants to help disadvantaged youngsters learn the joy of music when she graduates.
Joining the Scouts, almost 12 years ago, gave Sarah’s confidence a big boost. “The Scouts made me welcome from day one and gave me so much support,” she said.
Scouting is all in the family for Sarah. Her mum Anne is a Beaver Scout Leader, her dad Malcolm is District Scout Leader and her brother Neil is Group Scout Leader for the 9th Dunstable Scout Group. And Sarah was one of 36 young people chosen to represent Beds Scouts at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden.
Looking back on her sensational sporting summer, she reflected: “Watching how every single Paralympian coped was just awesome. I will never complain again!”
