A new “town tea” will be blended as part of the fun at the Dunstable Town Fayre this Saturday, September 15.

This year’s attractions will include a craft fair, a petting zoo, pony rides, a reptile tent, a dog show, Punch and Judy, and food competitions.

The fayre, run by Dunstable Town Council, will be held in Priory Gardens from 10am to 4pm, and entry is free.

Visitors can also help create a new blend of tea exclusively for Dunstable, at a tea tasting event from 1pm to 4pm.

They can join tea expert Malcolm Ferris Lay in the Priory House heritage and tourism centre, High Street South.

There is a £10 charge for the tea event, £7.50 for concessions, and the tickets must be bought in advance from Priory House. The Dunstable tea will go on sale at the centre.

Councillor Liz Jones, community services committee chairman, said: “It’s very exciting to think that Dunstable will soon have its very own brand of tea!”

It’s a chance to taste different teas, enjoy a home-made scone, help create the Dunstable blend – and receive a package of the new tea.

Food competitions at the fayre include contests for the best Victoria sponge, best fruit cake and best jam/marmalade/chutney, and cake decorating. Entry forms for the dog show and food contests can be downloaded from www.dunstable.gov.uk.

You can also register your dog at Pets at Home, on the White Lion Retail Park, in the run-up to the event.

Or register with the store team in Priory Gardens on the day, from 10am to 12noon.

Food competition entry forms can also be picked up at Priory House. Entries should be taken to the centre between 10am and 11am.

Events include: 10.30am, official opening by Dunstable mayor Pat Staples; 11.30am, competition judging; 12.30pm, fun dog show; 1pm-4pm, tea tasting; 2pm, Punch and Judy; 3.30pm, Punch and Judy.
