Seven arrests at Town v Millwall FA Cup clash
Bedfordshire Police have declared the policing operation at today’s Luton Town v Millwall FA Cup fifth round clash a success.
Seven arrests were made as Hatters went out 3-0, and a statement on the Bedfordshire Police website said: “The policing operation in support of Luton Town V Millwall 5th round cup tie has concluded today with no major issues.
“Seven people were arrested over the course of the day, for public order offences. Three men were arrested before the game – one for breach of a court order; another man was arrested for affray inside the ground after stewards ejected him from the crowd.
“Millwall fans were escorted safely away from the ground and back onto trains by about 4pm.
“The other arrests, including one for throwing a bottle at a police horse, were made after the game in the town centre after a short stand off between police and a minority of fans in the areas of Dudley Street and George Street.
“All those arrested remain in custody pending further enquiries.
“Officers from Bedfordshire Police, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire Constabularies, Metropolitan Police Service, along with support from Thames Valley Police mounted section and British Transport Police were involved in today’s operation which stretched between London and Luton.”
Meanwhile, Supt Linda Kelly, tactical commander for the day, added: “I have been pleased with the way today’s policing operation has gone.
“It was an excellent partnership between ourselves, the clubs, the other forces and agencies. It is a shame that a small minority behaved badly after the game but the vast majority of fans enjoyed the occasion despite the result on the field and went away without causing any problems.
“There will be a debrief and any people we identify who did cause problems we will look to arrest at a later time.”
