Shoppers check out store refurb

Customers have been flocking to see the results of the multi-million pound refurbishment of Sainsbury’s in Dunstable.
The store’s cafe has been extended and modernised, its fish, butcher’s and delicatessen counters have all been revamped, and shoppers can pick up stylish new threads in its extended clothing section, which now includes the Gok Wan fashion range.
Customers were welcomed into the new-look store on Wednesday morning (October 31) by the Salvation Army brass band.
Regional manager Nick Smith presented the charity with a cheque for £700, money raised by staff and customers over the past few months.
The store was officially re-opened with a ribbon cutting by the Mayoress of Dunstable, Pat Staples, Watling Lower School pupil Harrison Grubb and Weatherfield Academy pupil Sammi Lloyd. Both youngsters were chosen for the honour by their teachers for the inspiring approach to life.
To compensate for the disruption to people in Dunstable, building contractors Basebuild Services are carring out projects at the two schools, including painting, replacing fencing and creating a reading area.
Store manager Jim Bavington said: “I would like to say that I am extremely proud of my colleagues, they have worked so hard over the refurbishment.
“It has been a huge job, and I hope that our customers love the new shopping experience that we have brought to them.”
