SLIDESHOW: Christmas comes to Dunstable

The festive season officially began in Dunstable on Friday (December 7) as stars of television and panto watched a special torch procession before the big Christmas lights switch-on.

The lights were turned on by town mayor Pat Staples with the help of actor Sue Holderness – famous for her portrayal of Marlene in legendary sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

Sue Holderness was joined by her fellow cast members of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which will be on at Grove Theatre from December 14 - January 6.

Sue, who plays the Wicked Queen, was joined by co-star Alexis Strum – who plays Snow White – on switching-on duty.

A torchlight procession began at Priory Church and finished at Market Square, where Dunstable’s dazzling decorations were illuminated.

Dunstable’s Christmas Carol Concert was also held at the event, with festive songs ringing out from the crowds, who were paid a visit from Father Christmas himself.
