The co-owner of a successful Eaton Bray eatery is celebrating a New Year honour of his own after he was named Spice Times readers’ Chef of the Year.

Firuzul Haque, who owns Cafe Masala in Bower Lane with partner Taraque Uddin, was awarded the title by leader of the Liberal Democrats Simon Hughes at a glitzy ceremony at the Park Plaza Hotel in Westminster, London on December 9 in front of about 1,200 guests.

Firuzul said: “I’m very proud. I’m very happy with this award.”

Taraque said: “It’s totally deserved, he’s a fantastic chef.

“We’re going to have a party in the new year to celebrate the achievement, so watch this space.”

Spice Times is the definitive Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant magazine, released nationally each quarter.

Cafe Masala is no stranger to awards, as it was named Best Local Restaurant (East of England) in 2010 and Best Regional Restaurant the following year.
