Well-known heroin addict died from drugs dependence
A man who was known in Dunstable as ‘Stretch’ died as a result of dependence on drugs, a coronor ruled yesterday.
Matthew Ison, 37, was found unconscious in the public toilets in Ashton Square, Dunstable, by the toilet janitor on May 15 this year.
The inquest was told that police officers and paramedics at the scene attempted to revive him with CPR, but he was declared dead at 6.03pm.
There was 244mg of alcohol in his blood (the driving limit is 80mg) and methodone or heroin.
Dunstable Coroner’s Court heard how Mr Ison, of Southwood Road, had been receiving treatment for addiction and was recovering.
Assistant Deputy Coroner Thomas Osborne said: “It’s a sad case because it looks as if efforts were being made and Matthew was overcoming his addiction.”
The medical cause of death was a drugs overdose.
