National treasure for Grove

National treasure Des O’Connor will be taking to the stage at the Grove Theatre in September.

The 82-year-old all-round entertainer is still strutting his stuff and proving that oldies are goldies.

He sings. he dances, he jokes – poking gentle fun at himself – and audiences across the country love it.

He’s performed alongside a veritable cornucopia of showbusiness legends like Liberace, the Beatles, Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand, Cilla Black and even Ole Blue Eyes himself – Frank Sinatra.

And in spite of being the butt of many a Morecambe and Wise joke, he’s recorded 36 albums and had four Top Ten singles including I Pretend.

His easy personality proved a hit on on television where he was a popular chat show host as well as being the easy-on-the-ear presenter of the long running Channel 4 gameshow Countdown.

Des - who’s had five children by four wives – has brought laughter to more than 200 million people across the globe and now it’s Dunstable’s turn to share his well-loved brand of light entertainment.

BAFTA nominated Richard Digance is another national treasure who’ll be appearing at the Grove in September.

His unique blend of folks songs and comedy appeals to all age groups and he’s big on audience participation.

Richard, who studied mechanical engineering before deciding to tread the boards, has supported some legendary stars in his time including Steve Martin, Robin Williams and Brian May of Queen.

He’s renowned for his quirky poems, funny stories and self-penned compositions.
