A quintet of aspiring young ballerinas will be dancing the dream next month when they perform Sleeping Beauty in Stevenage with English Youth Ballet.

The five – Amy Goodship and Amilla Randall from Toddington, Chloe Humphreys and Katie Tearle from Luton and Jessica Marshall from Barton – were among 200 young hopefuls who attended an audition at the Gordon Craig Theatre in June.

Only 100 – aged between eight and 18 – were chosen.

EYB founder and director Janet Lewis MBE was on the lookout for the hottest young dance talent to join her award-winning company for the Stevenage production.

She said: “The standard was very pleasing and it was lovely to see lots of enthusiasm.

“English Youth Ballet is all about providing extra performance experience to young dancers.”

Principal dancer Amy Drew said rehearsals were going well and added: “There’s a unique and wonderful synergy taking place because all the young dancers learn so much from watching each other – and the professionals.”
