A leading member of the Houghton Regis community for many years, Frederick ‘Jack’ Goodchild, died on Wednesday, aged 85.
Together with his wife, Susan, Jack was known to many local people through his work on Houghton Regis Town Council (1993 – 2007) and Bedfordshire County Council (2005-2009) and at Houghton Regis Leisure Centre, where he was a personal trainer for 20 years.
He was also a volunteer working at the Pasque Hospice in his retirement, reflecting his kindness and compassion towards others.

Staff at the Town Council who had the privilege of knowing him will miss him for his dedication and enthusiasm for Houghton Regis as well as his support towards the local community. Town clerk Clare Evans said: “It was an honour and privilege to have worked with Jack.”
A tributes was also paid by Councillor Peter Williams, current Town Mayor, who said: “I had the pleasure of knowing Councillor Jack Goodchild for 16 years.
“He was a remarkable man who was so community driven and he would help and support anyone in the community.
