‘We’re not all Neds’ say youth group

editorial image

We all know Ned – he’s the ‘non-educated delinquent’ who often finds himself splashed across news pages, for everything from his gang brawls to ‘happy-slapping’ YouTube hits.

But while everyone is watching what Ned will do next, there’s an entire generation of frustrated young people who are trying to make their voices heard and stop Ned from dominating the headlines.

They are determined to see an end to Ned’s reign and lay rest to the common misconceptions of youngsters, often shown in the media.

The debut performance from Next Generation Youth Theatre (NGYT) in Luton is a highly physical ensemble show that tells the story of Ned and young people’s struggles to overcome him.

Co-founded by David Lloyd and Laura Hobson, NGYT is a company of 19 teenagers from the Luton area who create original devised theatre, using dance, music and drama.

The patrons are Colin Salmon, Neil Jackson and Jack Thorne.

Mr Lloyd said: “We are very excited that the Mayor and Mayoress as well as Colin Salmon (depending on his Strictly Come Dancing commitments) will be in attendance and hope the rest of Luton gets behind our young people who are desperate to see youth represented in a positive light by everyone.”

R.I.P. Ned is at the Hat Factory in Luton, 7.30pm on October 30.
