Ahmed falls just short of his ton for Lutonian

Lutonian's Ahtzaz Ahmed fell just short of a century during his side's 110-run win over Cople in the Beds County League Division One clash at Lower Wardown Park on Sunday.

After the hosts won the toss and batted, Ahmed came in at number eight to hammer 96 from just 32 balls with 12 sixes and three fours.

Umer M asood hit 32, while earlier Ahmed Israr added 29 in Lutonian’s 268 all out from 44.5 overs.

Masood then stood out in Cople’s reply, claiming 5-10 as the visitors were dismissed for 158, with Ahmed taking 2-19, Suleiman Mohammed 2-21 and Israr 1-25.

In the Bedfordshire Invitation League Division One, Lutonian enjoyed an 87-run win over Bedford.

Batting first, Lutonian made 275-7 thanks to Gohar Ayub’s brilliant 97, as they then bowled their hosts out for 188 in 37.2 overs.

The IIs defeated Bedford IIs by 137 runs at Lower Wardown Park.

The hosts made 203 from 33.5 overs as Mahboob Baig top scored with 54, while Yasir Yakoob (43) and Assan Shaukat (38) made valuable contributions.

Bedford were then skitted for 66 in 23.1 overs, with, Ehtasham Serwar taking 5-12, Yasir Masood 2-7, Raja Ahmed 2-12 and Atiq Miah 1-5.
