Dunstable Town start their defence in perfect style

Dunstable started the defence of their Beds County League Premier Division title in perfect fashion with victory over newly-promoted Langford on Sunday.

They put 241-6 on the board from their 45 overs, as Jonny Rice made 44 on debut with 54 from fellow opener Guy Hill, Sam Cherry adding 28 and Ian Gilbert belting 32 off 21 balls.

Cherry then took 3-32 and Jack Kilduff 3-33 as Langford could only manage 202-9 from their 45 overs, giving the hosts a 39-run win.

Dunstable IIs got their Division One campaign off to a brilliant start with the narrowest of victories away to Cople Argus.

Dunstable’s new skipper Ciaran Newton won the toss and elected to bowl and his bowling unit skittled their hosts for just 161 as Joe Thorne removed Cople’s top three to finish with 3-35.

After a poor start, Naveed Ahmed and Adam Lewis steadied the ship with 27 and 41 respectively.

However, Dunstable were struggling once again finding themselves nine down before Awais Khan hit an unbeaten 25 to guide the side to a nervy one wicket win.

The third team were bowled out for less than 100 by Harrold for the second time in under a year, dismissed for just 97 in just 24 overs, as they had Andy Sanders to thank for a gritty 26.

In reply Dunstable took just one wicket through Harsil Dixit as Harrold reached 98-1 in 21 overs.

Dunstable Town’s Saturday fourth team were handed 25 points after Gratham conceded.
