Indians boost promotion hopes against Hemel

Luton Town and Indians' stranglehold on a promotion place in the Saracens Herts League Championship Division extended to 33 points at the weekend as they crushed bottom side Hemel Hempstead by 101 runs.

Opener Ali Hassan and Akash Shah put on 123 for the second wicket before Hassan was run out for 62.

Sachin Wagh added 29, but Shah finished unbeaten on 75 as Luton reached 225-8 from 57 overs.

Mohammed Irshad then took 3-40 and Nitin Parsooth 3-28 as Hemel were skittled for just 114.

The IIs’ promotion hopes took a dent as they suffered just their third loss, going down by five wickets to Bayford & Hertford in Division Three B.

Indians could only reach a modest 171-9 despite Zainul Abadeen’s 62 and Jeremy Page’s 30.

Divyesh Patel was the pick of Luton’s bowlers with 2-44, but he couldn’t prevent Bayford and Hertford reaching 172-5.

In Division Five B, the IIIs hammered Chipperfield by eight wickets as after bowling their hosts out for 145, Luton eased to 148-2.

The IVs edged out Northwood Town by a mere five runs as they defended their low score of 148 all out, dismissing their opponents for just 143.

Indians’ Sunday IVs squandered a fantastic chance to beat table-topping Eversholt IIs in Beds County League Division Five.

Rashid Afridi took 3-12 as Eversholt were dismissed for 115, while Sailesh Patel and Rahul Patel claimed two wickets each.

Luton then collapsed to 84 all out as only two batsmen got into double figures, Gurvinder Singh striking 22.
