Crawley Green FC player Sam Halfpenny has been chosen to represent Great Britain at the next European Deaf Football Championships, which are being held in Germany in June.
Halfpenny, who is profoundly deaf, has to pay all his own expenses (£1,000), which includes transport, accommodation, food and training kit.
The Beds FA have made a generous contribution of £500 towards the cost.
This was presented to Halfpenny before Saturday’s game against Chesham United Reserves by Keith Swain, chairman of the Beds FA Football Operation.
The GB side have been drawn in the same group as Russia, Denmark and the Czech Republic and will begin their campaign against Russia on June 15 at the Oststadt Stadium.
