SSML Premier Division: Sun Sports 3 Crawley Green 3

Crawley Green twice came from behind to earn a hard-earned point in a 3-3 draw against local Watford based rivals Sun Sports.

In a feisty encounter, the game started a breakneck speed, with three goals in the opening 12 minutes.

With the wind at their backs the hosts took the lead after only four minutes, when Kyle Johnson curled a shot past Dean Bull.

Crawley rallied and five minutes they were level when JJ Billy was left unmarked to head home from an Aarron Browne corner.

Back came Sun Sports and three minutes later they regained the lead, when Jamie Speer’s lovely cross was headed home by Johnston to make it 2-1.

Kevin McManus then headed wide from another Browne corner, as did Speer after meeting George Hobson’s free kick.

The second half had a lively opening as Bull saved well from Jack Johnson before Crawley responded on 51 minutes, when JJ Billy’s excellent run saw him tee up Browne to beat Matthew Evans.

Thompson was denied by a last ditch tackle, while Reece Green, Aarron Browne and Green all had shots blocked in quick succession.

Sports then scrambled a Luke Fonseca long throw clear before Crawley took the lead after 62 minutes as Bull’s long free kick saw Dean Dummett head past Evans.

Next it was Sports turn to rally and they followed with a shot from Speer which went wide, with Johnson’s attempt blocked by McManus.

Browne went close to increasing Crawley’s lead after being set up by Charlie Clayton, his fierce shot repelled by Evans and with 14 minutes to go, Sports levelled through substitute Dominic David.

At this stage it was anyone’s game as both sides looked for the winner, Bull’s free kick punched clear by Evans before Thompson headed Clayton’s cross against the bar.

Dummett nodded over, but with time running out, the hosts almost snatched victory, as Kyle Johnson’s header was saved by Bull, as David and Andrew Brennan both fired off target too.

The two sides meet again in the reverse fixture on Wednesday night, as Crawley host London Tigers on Saturday.
