Goalscoring hero Scott Rendell was just looking forward to getting home to see his family after helping the Hatters into the fifth round of the FA Cup yesterday, writes Mark Wood.
All three of Town’s substitutes combined to score the winner as Luton sprang a massive shock to beat Premier League Norwich City 1-0 on their home ground.
Speaking after his dramatic late strike, super sub Rendell said: “I think I might need to go home and see the Mrs and the kid because I’ve been away for two nights now and if I’m away for three nights she could hang me up!”
And he hadn’t had a moment to catch up with his friends and family after netting the winner, saying: “I haven’t had a chance to pick my phone up yet, I’ve been shooting around doing a few interviews!
“So I will just sit down on the coach, read through them then and get in contact!”
But he was hoping to celebrate the victory today and maybe watch the draw with his team-mates.
Rendell continued: “Maybe tomorrow, definitely tomorrow. I will meet up with a few of the boys and have a few drinks definitely. It will be a good night and day!
“I imagine we will be together somewhere watching it, and probably worse for wear!”
On who he was hoping for, Rendell said: “Anyone obviously in the Premiership, or maybe the top four or five would be fantastic. But we will have to wait and see until tomorrow and see who we get.
“Maybe Man United away at Old Trafford. That place would be a sell out playing in front of 75,000 people would be fantastic. But like I say, any of the big four or five, but United maybe.”
But just like team-mate Mark Tyler, he believes nobody would want to face the prospect of coming to Kenilworth Road.
“If we get a home draw there will be a few teams, not worried, but looking at our game a lot more seriously now and taking us seriously,” he added.
“Nobody will want to come down to Kenilworth Road, but if we get an away tie I think it’s going to be the same, because obviously we’ve come to a Premiership side like Norwich and turned them over and kept a clean sheet and I think thoroughly deserved, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
