Hatters first team coach Joaquin Gomez was satisfied with the display of a number of first team players during the development squad’s 1-0 defeat at Northampton Town on Tuesday.

The likes of Jack Marriott, Ollie Palmer, Olly Lee, Dan Potts, Zane Banton and Tyreeq Bakinson were all involved for the match played at the Cobblers’ Sixfields Stadium.

However, the hosts won it three minutes before the half time interval when Paul Anderson tapped home from six yards out after Emmanuel Sonupe’s effort came back off the post.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Gomez said: “It was a game where both teams had a few pros playing. We wanted to put the ones who needed a few minutes, to get back into it.

“We suffered a little bit in the first half, we didn’t really get into our game.

“But in the second half we passed a lot more and they didn’t really have any chances.

“We had a few chances, but we couldn’t get the goal to get back into the game.

“We tried a few players in different positions, a few of the younger ones and yes, it was positive.”

Marriott came close on more than one occasion in the first period, before he nearly drew Town level at full stretch from a cross in the second period.

Gomez added: “In the first half we couldn’t get the pressure we wanted high up the pitch and they got quite a bit of the possession.

“In the second half the effort levels were a lot higher, we pushed higher up the pitch and we had a lot more of the ball and we had a few chances too.

“Overall it was a positive performance, they got a lot better after half-time.”
