Hatters’ players and management will benefit from some ‘elite football preparation’ during their week-long stay in Hungary.

In a change from their usual trip to Portugal, the Town squad flew out on Sunday morning, as they will stay and train at the Hungarian Football Federation’s equivalent of the FA’s national football centre at St George’s Park – the private Globall Football Park & SportHotel.

“It ticks a lot of boxes to go there, for a real productive working week.”

On why he chose the location, boss Nathan Jones said: “Pre-season trips you go away or hot climates and sometimes they’re great places and you have a real good time, but they’re not as conducive if you like for elite football preparation.

“We felt that they had a fantastic time at Portugal, we evaluated that and then we narrowed it down to three or four places that we would liked to have gone.

“We have someone who works for us called Gary Hobson, that does things like that and he flagged up one or two. I went to a real good one last year in the Alps, that was a consideration, but we felt that Hungary, there’s a micro-climate there, they have excellent facilities like at St George’s Park.

“We’re 20 minutes from Budapest so we can have a little bit of a bonding day as well, so it ticks a lot of boxes to go there, for a real productive working week.”

Meanwhile, Town striker Jack Marriott is relishing the trip, plus a pre-season programme that includes games with Brighton & Hove Albion and Walsall, to ensure he is in good shape for the new season, adding: “I’m really looking forward to the season, I just want to get started now, but we’ve got five or six weeks of pre-season to get under our belts and hopefully we’ll be out of the traps quicker than anyone else.

“I’ve had my two or three weeks pure recovery then got started on the programmes and came back at a good level where there’s room to go so I don’t peak too early and come the start of the season, I’m ready and raring to go.”
