Luton Town will entertain recently relegated Aston Villa in the first round of the EFL Cup after the draw was made this afternoon.

The Villans endured a hugely disappointing season last term, but are now under new ownership with Chinese businessman Dr Tony Xia replacing Randy Lerner earlier this month.

Former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo has taken over as the club’s new manager and is believed to have been given funds to strengthen his side ahead of the new campaign.

Hatters last hosted Villa in Division One back in April 1992, winning 2-0 with Brian Stein and Mark Pembridge on target.

The last meeting between the sides though was a 3-0 victory for Villa in the League Cup back in October 2002, Dion Dublin (2) and Ulises de la Cruz netting.

The game is due to take place the week commencing Monday, August 8.
