Hatters boss Nathan Jones was disappointed to lose striker Josh McQuoid for the immediate future after he underwent a knee operation this week.

The 26-year-old summer signing from AFC Bournemouth came off the bench in Jones’ first game in charge against Cambridge, only to miss last weekend’s 2-0 win at Mansfield, as he had the minor surgery done on Monday.

The Luton chief said: “That’s a real blow for us as Josh is a player I like, Josh is a player I was quite excited about working with.

“I played against Josh, knew him from his time at Bournemouth and Millwall, but he’s had a minor little operation.

“It’s less than we feared, so we’re kind of happy with that side of it, so he’s going to be a little bit of a time, but hopefully he’s back as quick as is humanly is possible.”

Winger Danny Green will also miss this weekend’s clash against Notts County as he is yet to recover from his ankle injury suffered in the 0-0 draw with Cambridge.

Jones continued: “He’s a little bit slower than the others, it’s not quite for the weekend, but we’re gauging him, he’s making decent progress.

“We knew it was going to be a little bit longer than the others because of how the injury first happened, it’s slightly more serious.

“But he’s making decent progress, steady progress, not miraculous.”

Ryan Hall also remains a doubt, but there was better news on goalkeeper Mark Tyler as Jones added: “Mark’s been back in training so hopefully everything’s okay with that.

“We want competition in every position, not just the goalkeeping one, there’s no 100 per cent guarantee position that anyone is going to play, and that’s what we want.

“We have a big squad, so we have enough cover in all positions, now we just want the competition, so that training goes up, performances goes up and we improve as a club.

“Ryan’s improving too. How quickly we’re going to have gauge, but he’s done more every day this week so hopefully we’ll have him back quite soon.”
