Striker Jayden Stockley is delighted to be at a club where he feels wanted after penning a loan deal with Luton yesterday.

The 21-year-old spent a frustrating spell at Town’s Sky Bet League Two rivals Cambridge United earlier in the season where, despite scoring twice on his debut, he only played 135 minutes in total.

However, after Town boss John Still admitted to being a long-time admirer of Stockley, the AFC Bournemouth forward said: “Players like being liked by the manager, it’s massive towards how your performances are.

“So getting on with the manager here will definitely stand me in good stead for churning out good performances week after week.”

It’s not just Still who has made an impression on the youngster either as he continued: “I’m getting a very good vibe about the place, there’s a good buzz around the team, so I’m happy to be a part of it.

“I feel like I’ve fitted in very well. I’ve been on a few loans and definitely this one’s up there as I’ve been embraced by the team.

“It’s nice to be here and hopefully I can help them.”

Stockley ended his loan spell with Cambridge early and went back to Bournemouth, where he then scored a hat-trick against United in a reserve match.

On his lack of game time at the U’s, Stockley said: “Most of it wasn’t for football reasons, but there you go. You get that sometimes, but that’s just made me stronger.

“I went back to Bournemouth, got a lot fitter and hopefully that gives me the best chance of doing well here.

“I feel in good form, I feel very fit and definitely wouldn’t come to a club like this if I wasn’t feeling confident.

“I jumped at the chance and am just really excited to get out there now.”

Stockley has experienced the Kenilworth Road crowd before when he was on loan at Woking during the 2012-13 season.

He was part of a Cards side that lost 3-1, before netting in a 3-1 win over Luton on New Year’s Day.

The striker said: “I remember playing here on Boxing Day and it was nearly a sell out.

“I know that fans here love the club and the atmosphere is absolutely unbelievable, so I’m hoping I can be on the receiving end of a good atmosphere myself.”

There will be a number of friendly faces cheering Stockley on should he make his debut against Shrewbury tonight too as he added: “My uncle is a big Luton fan, he’s come to visit me.

“It’s nice to have some familiar faces around to help me settle in and I definitely won’t want to let them down as they’ll be giving me stick for sure.

“They’ll be there too, so it will be nice to put in a performance in front of them.”
