AFC out after shootout woe
AFC Dunstable finally succumbed to a 4-2 penalty shoot-out defeat at Colney Heath in the second round of the Dudley Latham Memorial Cup (Premier Division Cup) on Tuesday night.
AFC started strongly but, after a couple of early chances, went behind to Jamie Eames’ strike after 39 minutes.
The visitors got themselves back into the tie with an excellent strike from BJ Christie just after the break.
Both teams had opportunities in the second period, but it was Colney who retook the lead through Josh Humbert’s 67th-minute goal.
Ryan Smith followed up a tremendous Dale Turney strike to head in from close range with 11 minutes to go, before he was controversially shown a straight red card.
AFC had two stonewall penalty claims turned down in extra-time before going into the penalty shoot-out.
AFC visit Hanwell Town in the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division on Saturday.
