The result left Hatters on just five points from their opening five games, while they were just one point better off at this stage last term.

They they went on to romp to the title by a massive 19 poitns from nearest challengers Cambridge as Lacey said: “Hopefully we can turn it around as we didn’t start too well last year, but ended up coming through and winning the league.

“I think this year we can take a bit of confidence from that so we can keep going and get the results we want in the end.”

Lacey had come on as a 13th minute substitute for Luke Rooney at the weekend as boss John Still opted to change to a 3-5-2 formation.

Ultimately it didn’t pay off with Town clearly second best on the day as he continued: “It was a disappointing performance all around.

“I was very pleased to be back in the team, but the result is not good enough.

“I think we were a bit sloppy and not good enough in all departments, the result reflected that.”

Luton will look to get back to winning ways this weekend when Plymouth Argyle visit Kenilworth Road.

Lacey understands how crucial it is to get their first home triumph of the season as he added: “It’s important next Saturday to turn it around.

“We’ll just go back to the training ground, work hard and hopefully the result will come.”
