Hatters need Midas touch?

Psychic offers to help the Town by bringing in the power of positive thinking

A celebrity psychic has offered to help the Hatters try and find the Midas touch next season in their battle against dropping out of the Football League for the first time in their long history.

Dean 'Midas' Maynard, who reportedly helped Leeds United overcome their 15 point deficit last season and also aided Leona Lewis in X Factor, believes he can help the Hatters fight off relegation.

He said: "I think the League's decision is very, very harsh, but now is the time to prove everyone wrong and turn this around.

"I believe we can, otherwise I would not offer my help to the club.

"The sceptics can scoff and laugh but look at my record to date and at least give me a chance. What have they got to lose?"

He was also contacted by Sunderland fans in 2005 after players had claimed to have seen a ghost at the training ground.

Maynard, who claims his father Colin is a Luton fan, admitted it would be his most difficult task, but still believes he can help.

He said: "Already, some of the fans I've spoken to have gone beyond 'what are the league doing to us' stage and said 'now we are going to fight and we can do this'.

"That's the mindset I would try and get everybody into.

"Once the club give me the green light it's the type of thing Uri Geller would have done years ago.

"I would try and get down to Kenilworth Road as much as possible to watch the games and I would do one or two bits I would like to keep secret."

Maynard also revealed he played on the plastic pitch at Kenilworth Road for Reading's youth team in 1988 – a game in which he got sent off in!

Stephen Browne, of the LTFC2020 consortium bidding to take control of the club, confirmed that they had been contacted by the psychic and admitted they would listen to his unusual offer of help.

He said: "He contacted us on Monday.

"We've just sent a polite email back and we will have a chat with him.

"We don't know much at all about him and obviously Mick (Harford) would have to be involved.

"I think it came via Nick Owen and we will touch base with him as soon as we've got a few minutes.

"It's one of those unlikely things, but we will listen to anybody who offers to help."
