SWIMMING: A fantastic first for Dunstable SC

Dunstable SC produced another brilliant performance at the Mid Beds Meet in Biggleswade earlier this month.

Dunstable SC continued their Chiltern League campaign with a fantastic first place position overall at the latest meet earlier this month.

Held at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre in Leighton Buzzard, this was largely a group of new DSC swimmers to the Chiltern League Competition.

The swimming club are determined to succeed in this league, as last year saw them the winners of Junior League and a promotion in the National Arena League, so they are after a clean sweep this term.

DSC were swimming against Bourne End, Bletchley, Leighton Buzzard, Letchworth and Flitwick Dolphins.

The Chiltern League is as always a ‘no faster than’ gala, where speeding tickets can be issued and no points won.

It’s an extremely difficult league, since all swimmers are taught to race as fast as they can, whereas this time it is imperative to stay within the speed limits to win maximum points.

The gala had a tremendous atmosphere from the outset, and even at the half way point the teams were only separated by a few points.

The relays particularly at the end were very exciting, as Dunstable enjoyed 15 first place positions and 16 second places as well.

They were not too fast in any event so maximised their points, only having one disqualification too.

Swimmers of the gala went to Harry Roberts and Anya Frazer, while the next Gala will be held on Saturday, April 22 at a venue to be arranged.

Overall points: 1, Dunstable, 225; 2, Leighton Buzzard,208; 3, Bourne End, 173; 4, Flitwick Dolphins, 162; 5, Bletchley, 122; 6, Letchworth, 119.
