Band set to perform in front of 45,000 people

Members of a Bedfordshire-based bagpiping band were hoping to blow away the opposition at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow at the weekend.

The University of Bedfordshire Pipe Band were competing alongside more than 16,000 fellow pipers at the event in front of an expected 45,000 crowd at the event on Glasgow Green on Saturday (August 15).

And although the team were not expecting to walk away with the top prize, they were hoping for a top six finish.

Speaking before the event, Pipe Major Anthony Doherty, 25, said: "To win the Worlds is the pinnacle of the piping world. Hopefully all the hard work will pay off on the day."

To find out how the pipe band got on, see the August 19 edition of The Luton News.
