Some of the brightest jewels of stage and screen sparkled brilliantly in Dunstable on Sunday (April 27) and succeeded in raising thousands of pounds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Cllr Caroline Maudlin, chairman of Central Bedfordshire Council, teamed up with a talented line-up of leading ladies for Wow, Here Come The Girls at The Grove Theatre, which was presented by local celebrity Samantha Womack of EastEnders fame.
Louise Dearman (from Wicked and Evita) was joined by Zoe Birkett (Pop Idol and Thriller Live), Kerry Ellis (Wicked and We Will Rock You), Sandra Marvin (Hairspray and Chicago), Sophia Ragavelas (Cats and Les Miserables), Faye Tozer (Steps and Singing In The Rain), Wiilemijn Verkaik (Wicked and Mamma Mia), Woman The Band and East Beds Youth Choir.
Caroline said: “East Beds Youth Choir, led by Karen Beer, held their own with their beautiful voices rising to the occasion as the stars pulled out all the stops to make the event simply amazing.
“Starting with the opening number – Louise singing Diamonds – the amazing power-houses of voices didn’t stop and the finale was a real showstopper.
“The show exceeded my wildest dreams! After asking Louise last October in a chance meeting if she would put on a show with me, I can’t believe that it led to this fabulous night which raised a staggering £12,286.
“It helped showcase the amazing facilities we have at The Grove and the audience were all smiles when they came out at the end, buzzing with what an incredible show it had been.
“A massive thank you goes to absolutely everyone involved, our sponsors and everyone who came.”
