Eastenders star Samantha Womack appears in Milton Keynes panto

Eastenders favourite Samantha Womack is expecting plenty of boos from the audience when she stars as the villain in this year's pantomime at Milton Keynes Theatre.

Working alongside First Family entertainment, she will plays Queen Rat in the pantomime running from December 8 to January 14 next year.

Samantha is no stranger to panto but says of her first time as the ‘baddie’ this year.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to playing the dastardly villain in Dick Whittington. I love panto and being the baddie means I get the best and biggest response from the audience…all the boos of course!

“It will also be lovely for me as I live in Bedfordshire and MK is my local theatre so I’m really looking forward to seeing you all there, young and old to join Dick on his big adventure!”

Samantha is probably best known for her ongoing and current role as the feisty Ronnie Mitchell in BBC’s Eastenders.

Additional TV credits include Forgiven, The Last Detective, Strange, Judge John Deed, Liverpool 1, Pie In The Sky, The Grimleys, Mount Pleasant, Home Again, Babes In The Wood and the hugely popular Game On series.

She has also appeared in numerous films including the box office hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, One Night In Istanbul, Dead Man’s Cards, Lighthouse Hill, The Baby Juice Express, Up N Under and Breeders.

A renowned stage performer, Samantha has also appeared in Hope (Royal Court Liverpool), the Lincoln Center’s production of the classic musical South Pacific in the lead role of Nellie Forbush at the Barbican and the UK Tour, which toured to MK Theatre in 2011.

Featuring all the traditional pantomime ingredients; sensational songs, a live band, dazzling dance routines, slapstick comedy and bags of audience participation - Dick Whittington is guaranteed to be full of wonder to delight audiences of all ages.

Dick Whittington tells the rags to riches tale of a young man and his cat on an exciting quest for fame and fortune. Dick and his trusty cat Tommy arrive in London seeking their fortune, but find the streets aren’t really paved with gold.

After meeting Alice Fitzwarren, a merchant’s daughter, and taking a job for her father, things are looking up.

But the evil Queen Rat has other ideas! Will Dick Whittington find his fortune? Will good conquer evil or will Queen Rat succeed in stopping the course of true love? Do paws beat claws? Pack up your knapsacks, lace up your boots and join Milton Keynes Theatre this festive season to find out!
