Lindisfarne to headline new music festival

Big names and emerging artists are heading to the area this month for the first Harpenden Folk, Roots & World Music Festival.

The event, taking place at Harpenden Public Halls on Saturday August 27, will be headlined by 1970s folk-rock pioneers Lindisfarne.

The band’s six-piece line-up of long-time members is fronted by founder member Rod Clements, who is joined by Dave Hull-Denholm, Steve Daggett, Charlie Harcourt, Ian Thomson and former Roxy Music drummer Paul Thompson. The band’s hits include Meet Me On The Corner, Fog On The Tyne, Lady Eleanor and Run For Home.

Six other acts are on the bill, including singer, songwriter and peace protester Julie Felix and Dexeter, who recently played three shows at the O2 in London to critical acclaim.

Polly And The Billets Doux will bring the their energy-filled show to the stage, wiyh the genre-defying quartet playing a blend of folk, pop, rock’n’roll, soul, country, blues and gospel!

Linda Em will showcase er notsalgically lyrical style, while Said The Maiden are three friends who discovered a mutual love of folk music and sing traditional songs from around the UK and America, often in three part a capella harmony.

Completing the line-up are The Delta Ladies, with a sound that draws on American and European Roots music, folk, world and bluegrass influences.
