Focus on Jazz returns to the Bear Club Luton with another special evening featuring the cream of international and local vocal talent on Saturday April 23.

The club hosts soul and jazz singer Noel McKoy who has recorded, performed and toured the world with many of the greatest names in music including Kool & the Gang, Gladys Knight, George Clinton, Womack & Womack, Lonnie Liston Smith, Marcus Miller and Stevie Wonder.

Completing the line-up will be Luton singer Cheryl Lucas. Starpoint FM DJ Paul Goldsmith will once again play the best in gospel, soul and R’n’B, and the night will be hosted by The Real Reminiscence – Lee Drummond.

Noel McKoy is an internationally renowned singer, songwriter and producer with commanding live presence. Stevie Wonder requested Noel sing with him at Wonder’s most recent London o2 concerts.

As well as a highly successful front-man and collaborator with major artists, Noel is a respected innovator. The genre-defining street soul anthem Family which he wrote, produced and performed in family band McKoy in 1993 is revered over 20 years later as a stylistically unique classic loved by an entire generation of UK soul fans.

Noel’s diverse ability to find the right note for any event has led to many soundtrack commissions. Hollywood took note soon after when he co-wrote the song Five Good Reasons for the major movie Bad Company starring Ellen Barkin and Laurence Fishburne.

Recent musical highlights from his diverse career includes taking lead vocals at the Royal Festival Hall for Jazz Jamaica’s 21-piece orchestra’s Motown Greats show led by Gary Crosby OBE. In addition, he was asked to join The British Collective, a supergroup of British Soul music pioneers Leee John, Omar, Junior and Don-E.

Noel will be supported by Luton vocalist Cheryl Lucas who has performed all over the world, at two Royal weddings as well as the wedding ceremony of Wayne & Colleen Rooney. The highlight of Cheryl’s career to date saw her singing with the James Brown in Beirut. She also regularly sings in the worship band at Luton Christian Fellowship - her local church.

Doors open at 7pm. Tickets £18 on the door or £15.50 in advance. See http://tkt.to/NoelMcKoy to book.
