Get set and bake - and meet GBBO’s Nadiya

Following the success of Luton’s Nadiya Hussain, crowned The Great British Bake Off Winner 2015, The Mall is hosting a competition to find the best bakes in town.

And the special guest will be Nadiya herself, in town for the switch on of the Christmas lights.

On Saturday bakers can bring their creations to the tent located in Central Square at The Mall from 10am to 3pm. Bakes can be anything from a classic Christmas cake to a tray of biscuits, as long as there’s a festive theme and decoration.

Nadiya will be making a star appearance on the day, presenting the winners with their prizes before turning the town’s Christmas lights on, with Santa and judges from The Mall picking the winners on the day. Prizes for each category include The Great British Bake Off Celebrations 2015 Recipe Book, baking sets and Mall Gift Cards.

There are three categories; under 12s, teens (13-17 years) and adults (18+), with a winner and runner up in each category. Attached to every entry should be a list of ingredients, plus name, age and contact telephone number. After the competition, the bakes will be donated to local homeless charity Noah Enterprise, or entrants can purchase their cake back for a £5 charity donation.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to Luton to see what bakes local residents can offer us!” said Nadiya. “I’ve received a huge amount of support from Lutonians, so I’m really excited to see them get baking for The Mall’s Bake Off, and present the winners with their prizes.”
