Produced by one of the longest-surviving theatre groups in the area, The Griffin Players, the play will run at The Library Theatre from tonight, September 17, until Saturday September 19.

The powerful play, which was first produced on Broadway in 1989, tells the story of two rookie lawyers in the US Navy who defend two US marines on trial for murdering a fellow marine.

The alleged murder took place at the Guantanamo Bay naval base, and as they dig deeper the lawyers uncover more than they bargained for.

Directed by Richard Alexander, the play features a huge cast of 14 men. Richard said: “We have some top local actors with decades of experience between them and I am proud to say the youngsters are more than holding their own.”

The production posed a challenge for the wardrobe department, as they had to find a large number of authentic naval uniforms.

Richard added: “Our usual suppliers simply couldn’t handle our demands this time, but after an exhaustive search we were luckily enough to find a specialist supplier of miltaria so our well-drilled cast will look every inch the part.”
