Nature’s fireworks light up skies

Photographer Gary Nunn was among the onlookers who went to the beauty spot for a grandstand view.

Gary, of Leighton Buzzard-based Gary Nunn Photography, took stunning shots of the scenario in the skies.

It was the first time that he had been to the Downs to watch the meteor shower and he said he was surprised by the number of spectators.

He added: “It was actually quite busy. People were cheering when they saw one.

“I was up there from about 10.30pm to about 12.30am. It was quite an eventful night.”

Gary, who is a wedding and lifestyle photographer, blended shots of individual shooting stars to create a dazzling impression of the breathtaking scene.

He said: “It was a great spectacle.”

The Met Office says that the Perseids can be seen from the end of July and in August.

In late July, the show began with one meteor an hour crossing the skies.

And the Met Office says that at the peak point, around 100 meteors an hour are visible.

No equipment is needed, as they can be seen with the naked eye.

The perfect spot is somewhere away from bright lights, on a clear night.
