Something for everyone in Grove’s movie line-up

It sounds like a strange combination, but they are just some of the fantastic flicks coming to the Grove Theatre in Dunstable this January.

On Thursday 5 and Friday 6, at 7.30pm, New Year’s Eve (12A) will spread a bit of festive cheer.

An all-star cast, including Jon Bon Jovi and Robert De Niro, feature in a celebration of love, hope and forgiveness as the clock counts down to midnight.

The much-lauded spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (15) will play on Sunday 8 and Tuesday 10, 7.30pm.

Based on John le Carre’s best-selling novel, the slow-burning film tells the story of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service who are striving to keep pace with other countries’ espionage efforts.

Happy Feet 2 (U) will delight young and old alike on Sunday 8 and Sunday 15, 2.30pm.The sequel to the Academy Award-winning hit Happy Feet, it welcomes back everyone’s favourite dancing penguin Mumble.

On Wednesday 11, Thursday 12, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15, 7.30pm, pop down and see Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law return in Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows (12A).

Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (U) is playing on Saturday 14 and Sunday 22, 2.30pm.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (18), on Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18 and Friday 20, 7.30pm, is a dark and thrilling new adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s popular best-seller.

On Sunday 22, Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25, Thursday 26, Friday 27 and Saturday 28, 7.30pm, Meryl Streep portrays Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady (12A).

The film tells the story of one of the 20th century’s most famous and influential women who came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world.

Rounding off the month’s entertainment is Steven Spielberg’s War Horse (12A), playing on Monday 30 and Tuesday 31, 7.30pm.

Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, it tells the tale of the remarkable friendship between a horse and a young man.
