Drama steeped in history at MKT this autumn

FROM the war-torn trenches and memorable monarchs to the glamour of Hollywood’s silver screen and rock and roll there’s something for everyone in Milton Keynes Theatre’s superb autumn season.

Highlights include the return of the great Ian Mckellen in black Mafia comedy, The Syndicate, a world premiere performance from Warren Clarke in Three Days In May and this year’s magical family pantomime Aladdin.

History buffs can enjoy two top quality dramas. The Madness of King George III stars one of the UK’s most versatile actors, David Haig, and the acclaimed Clive Francis, to tell the tale of a lunatic king. With its huge cast, this is an epic production combining drama, politics and humour into a vivid theatrical portrait of English history.

Propeller, the internationally acclaimed all-male acting troupe, brings its own unique take on one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Henry V. A thrilling and deeply moving tale of the greatest British warrior king.

R.C Sherriff’s poignant multi-award winning semi-autobiographical First World War drama, Journeys End, returns. This gripping tale of ordinary men in extraordinary circumstances celebrates humour and courage, engaging audiences with a compelling insight of how in the face of adversity, the human spirit will always triumph.

Warren Clarke returns to the stage for the first time in over a decade , playing Winston Churchill, in the world premiere of Ben Brown’s Three Days In May, a thrilling political drama which goes behind the doors of Number 10 during three of the most pivotal days in British history.

Ian McKellen plays alongside Michael Pennington in a brand new version of Eduardo De Filippo’s The Syndicate. Set in 1960s Naples this comedy grows blacker as the ‘respectable’ face of Naples collides with the ‘godfather’ criminal underworld.

Song and dance fans can enjoy Strictly Gershwin, a dazzling celebration of the razzmatazz of the big band era. There’s the great South Pacific, Buddy returns, Glyndebourne on Tour, the much-loved Tommy Steele in Scrooge.
