The performances will be the first time some of the powerful hymns will have been sung in over 170 years.

On The Road To Freedom is presented by Townsend Productions in association with Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre, House and The Arts Council.

Playwright Neil Gore said: “On The Road To Freedom sits well with the type of work that Townsend Productions do best – tackling aspects of our social history and aiming to draw parallels with present society.

“The recently discovered National Chartist Hymn Book is the centrepiece of the event, and the choir and performers will sing many of the hymns for the first time in over a century and a half.
