Havers premieres comedy at Royal & Derngate

NIGEL Havers and Judy Garland lead a top drawer line-up at the Royal & Derngate this autumn.

The venue’s new season has just been announced and it opens with the return of End of the Rainbow, the award-winning drama charting the final months in the life of showbiz diva, Judy.

Housewive’s favourite Havers is premiering a new comedy, Basket Case, before taking the production to the West End.

The season continues with The Two Gentlemen of Verona and new musical, The Go-Between. For Christmas there’s a brand new production of Alice in Wonderland, along with storytelling event for under 5s, Down the Rabbit Hole, while this year’s spectacular family pantomime, Aladdin, stars Bobby Davro and children’s favourite Basil Brush.

Top comedians coming to town include Stephen Merchant, Milton Jones and Al Murray. Musical theatre highlights are the ever popular Blood Brothers, and a new production of The King and I in the New Year. There is music to suit all tastes from folk, jazz, and big band, to taiko drumming, along with old favourites including The Drifters and The Hollies, and the theatre hosts the sixth Annual Arnold Festival as part of its orchestral season. Dance highlights include Australian choreographer Shaun Parker’s playful new show Happy As Larry and top UK company Richard Alston Dance Company with Roughcut.
