Leather jackets at the ready as DAOS show that Grease really is the word...

One of the best-loved musicals of all time is coming to the Grove Theatre in Dunstable.

Grease, which opened in 1971 and was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, is being given a new lease of life by local theatre group DAOS.

DAOS will be donning their leather jackets and slicking back their hair to step into the famous shoes of the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds.

Audiences are invited to take a trip back to the 1950s and watch as bad boy Danny Zuko and girl next door Sandy Olsson fall in love all over again.

The odd couple have enjoyed a summer romance, but when they unexpectedly discover they’re now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle the flame? Or will high school politics tear them apart?

Grease is the original high school musical, and with unforgettable musical numbers including You’re The One That I Want, Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted To You and Greased Lightnin’, the iconic show is guaranteed to get everyone rocking and rolling in the aisles.

Award-winning amateur dramatics company DAOS will no doubt put their own twist on the production, and with producer and choreographers Lucy O’Hare and Ashley Mead –known for their stunning creations with Empire Arts –at the helm, the show is bound to be a hit.

Katie Ross and Cameron Hay take the lead roles as Sandy and Danny, Simon Rollings plays T-bird Kenickie, and Helen Harris steps into the shoes of rebel Rizzo.

There will also be a live band under the direction of Chris Young.

With drag racing, romance, singing and scandal, the show has everything you could possibly want from a musical.

So dust off your leather jackets, pull on your bobby-socks, and get ready to hand-jive the night away and shout “A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop A-wop-bam-boom!”

Altogether now; “You’re the one that I want...”
