Fresh from a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Nina Conti is bringing her new show to the Grove Theatre, Dunstable, at 7.30pm. And in a spectacular feat of ventriloquism, it will be entirely improvised. Nina has won a British Comedy Award, performed on Live at the Apollo, Russell Howard’s Good News, and Sunday Night at the Palladium, and made a BAFTA nominated film – all without even moving her lips. Luton-based alt-prog rockers Exit Black support platinum-selling UK act The Pigeon Detectives at a special one-off show at The Forum Hertfordshire in Hatfield. The opportunity for Exit Black to play with the well-established indie rockers is due to Forum Hertfordshire’s Hatfield Rocks concept, which supports the best in unsigned and undiscovered new music. Also joining The Pigeon Detectives on the night are Franklin – one of Hertfordshire’s most promising unsigned bands. Politically-charged music and words will ring out in Luton as artists unite for We Shall Overcome. The event takes place at the Castle Tavern in Castle Street, starting at midday and continuing to around midnight. All the bands, poets, comedians and speakers on the bill are from Luton or the surrounding area. Admission to the gig will be granted in exchange for food for the food bank, but cash donations to the Mary Seacole Housing Association for young homeless people will also be accepted. From accountancy and alternative medicine to web development and writing skills, if you want to develop your knowledge and understanding of a subject, Luton Central Library is holding a series of one-off sessions to help. These sessions will enable you to register with Universal Class, an online learning tool where you can choose from hundreds of free public courses. Once registered you will be shown how to use the site and get the most out of your chosen course. You will need a library card number and an email address to register for the courses. If you don’t have either of these you can join at any Luton library, and get some basic assistance in setting up an email account. Sessions are free but booking is recommended. Dunstable Rep’s Little Theatre hosts Forbidden Broadway, an Off-Broadway cabaret-style revue sharply spoofing show tunes, characters and plots of contemporary and current Broadway/West End musicals. Over the years it has also targeted famous musical theatre actors, writers, composers, directors, choreographers and producers. The show stars 12 of the best actors and actresses on the local Am Dram scene, changing in and out of costume at lightning speed as they sing songs such as Defying Subtlety, Into The Words, More Miserables, Rant, I Enjoy Being A Cat and many more.

With a brand new set which reflects the stunning architecture of Seville and its main square with Roman and Moorish influences, Watford Colosseum is transformed for a production of Carmen. It is the story of the bewitching gypsy girl whose tantalising beauty lures a soldier to desertion and leads to her own murder.
