Moses Mabike works at Amazon’s delivery station in Dunstable and first started working for the company in 2013. He was recently nominated for a That’s BENtastic Award due to his support for young people from ethnic minority groups.

Moses’ partner noticed a need in the community for a place young people could get off the streets and get connected with other young people, which led them to start Rising Stars Youth Club in the Luton area.

“We noticed there was an increase in knife crime in the area, so we started Rising Stars Youth Club to help combat local youth getting involved in this. We provide a safe place for young people and offer a variety of activities, where they can learn new skills and make friends.

"A key area of focus at the club is the support of young people from a variety of different ethnic backgrounds, encouraging them to stay away from trouble.

“I am also a representative in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Amazon. My role includes organising events and creating printed information for employees detailing whatever they need to know about Amazon’s promotion of equal opportunities.

"Before that, I was a Safety committee member and Associate forum member in Hemel Hempstead , where I helped fellow colleagues with issues they had both inside and outside Amazon. I think it is important to radiate positivity and have a passion for supporting anyone I can, in any way I can.”

Moses’ work in the local community with young people, as well as his help for those within the Amazon workplace, is the reason he won a regional That’s BENtastic award.

“I was over the moon to have been nominated, and even more excited to win this award. I hope sharing my story encourages someone else to do the same, or someone in need to reach out. Sometimes people find it hard to speak up so I hope approaching people with a smile and a hello will help them to reach out for whatever they need!”

Ramona Williams, Chair of BEN UK Ops, added: “Moses is one of the many fantastic BEN ambassadors working at Amazon across the UK and it’s great to recognise his efforts to support the black community inside and outside Amazon with this award.

"Moses’ work in the community has a profound impact on many people and he is a much-valued member of the team at Amazon in Dunstable.”

The Black Employee Network (BEN) is an employee resource group, also known as an affinity group, at Amazon open to Black employees and allies.

BEN’s mission at Amazon is to recruit, retain, and empower Black employees across the business. BEN UK Ops is a branch of the network specifically for employees in the operational arm of Amazon's business.

Through BEN employees have access to resources, networking opportunities and engaging initiatives to support their personal and professional growth.

Amazon has 13 affinity groups which play an important role in bringing Amazon employees together and creating a sense of community globally while encouraging inclusivity and diversity. These groups include the BEN, Glamazon, Asians@Amazon, People with Disabilities and Women@.
