The visit follows the launch of LLA’s new brand last week, and comes as the airport announces an 8.4% increase in passenger numbers in November.

The redevelopment work will deliver major improvements to the terminal facilities, including new shopping and eating options and a new executive lounge and significant upgrades to both road and rail links.

The Minister met with newly appointed CEO Nick Barton and Chairman Clive Condie, as well as representatives from LLA’s shareholders Aena and Ardian, to see how the work will help improve the experience for passengers, while also increasing annual passenger capacity from 12 million to 18 million by 2026.

Mr Condie said: “We are delighted to welcome the Minister to the airport at such an important stage of our development.

“Our growth of 8.4% in November demonstrates LLA’s growing popularity among passengers; the redevelopment will ensure our growth continues by delivering additional capacity and a great passenger experience.”

“The development of London Luton will make an important contribution to the UK’s growth and long term economic plan as well as to the local area. I am pleased to have seen the ambition of the airport first hand. London Luton is set to become an increasingly important asset for London and the UK in terms of helping solve the problem of airport capacity.”
