Networkers dig new al fresco networking style

WHEN the going gets tough the tough – go networking.

But the normal over-cooked beans and burned sausages weren’t for the hardy company volunteers at Whipperley Infants School, in Luton, last month.

They worked together to help transform the school grounds during the first Eco-Action Networking Event, on June 8.

It was organised by the environmental charity Groundwork Luton & Bedfordshire, in partnership with Bedfordshire and Luton Chamber of Commerce.

The practical tasks ranging from planting and painting to the creation of a new sensory garden and two new log seating areas.

The working groups were changed throughout the day to allow all participants to meet, network and work together in a fun, informal setting. The event offered an opportunity for companies to network and make a contribution to the local community, and are funded by participating companies.

The work is part of a two year long project at the school to improve the grounds for the teaching and learning of science outside the classroom.

Local companies including Mazars, Natwest, Vauxhall Motors and acs Office Solutions got stuck in and help volunteers to learn new skills and develop teamwork.

Adrian Richings of acs Office Solutions, said: “It was a great idea to enable a party of like-minded business people to spend the day together, networking and getting to know each other in a very different environment to the usual networking type meetings. On top of that to see the look on the children’s and teachers’ faces when they came to see what we had created during the day gave us an enormous amount of pride and satisfaction.”
